Beyond the Fattening Room project has launched its first public exhibition in Birmingham. 'Embodied Care' focuses on one of the project's carvings to open conversation on forms of care that are often hidden and shaped by cultural traditions. While the visual content of the display invites visitors to reflect on how practices of care influence women's bodies and everyday lives, the way in which the display is presented experiments with methods of caring for African art objects. The display expands the narrative of one carving by connecting the art object to the artist, its collector and the women who it represents.

This display is presented alongside What Are the Odds? Ikon Creative Health at Library of Birminhgam until 27th June 2026.
